Telephone the practice to book a telephone consultation with your doctor, alternatively use the online appointment booking system. The doctor will then call you on the date and time you have been given.
During the consultation a decision will be made whether you need to be seen by the doctor, another health professional or whether your problem can be dealt with over the telephone. If you need to be seen the doctor will book you into an evening appointment as appropriate. There may be occasions when you will be required to come to a morning surgery rather than an evening appointment.
Please confirm your telephone number with reception
It will be important to have your phone close by and remember to answer the telephone from a ‘blocked’ or ‘unknown’ number.
Urgent cases are seen on the day.
Non Urgent Cases
If your condition is non-urgent we also run an open surgery in the mornings at Brightlingsea where no appointment is necessary. Please present yourself at reception between 08:30 and 10:00 to see a Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Registrar or Locum.
Please let us know if more than one person in the family needs to be seen and we can give you a longer appointment if necessary. We can also arrange for someone to accompany you during an examination.
Our Nurse Practitioners can help you with any of the following problems:
- Infections or suspected infections of chest, ears, nose, throat, eyes, skin, wounds/operation sites, urine, vaginal discharges.
- Abdominal pains
- Aches and pains
- Family planning/ contraceptives
- Control of asthma
- Control of blood pressure
- Breathing difficulties
Please note: Nurse Practitioners should not be booked for ear syringing or blood tests, these are carried out by our team of healthcare assistants and practice nurses.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
Blood tests are available at the Brightlingsea site every morning between 08:30 and 11:50 and at the Alresford site on a Wednesday morning between 08:30 and 10:30. Please contact the practice to book an appointment.
Please note we are unable to carry out blood tests in afternoon clinics.
If you cannot attend your appointments for any reason please let us know as soon as possible, giving at least 24 hours’ notice. We can then offer the appointment to someone else.
Due to an increase in the number of wasted appointments through patients failing to attend appointments without informing the surgery, it has become necessary to implement the following policy:
If you repeatedly fail to attend appointments you may be removed from this practice list and required to find an alternative doctor or you may be denied access to pre-bookable appointments.
If you are registered for text message reminders you can cancel appointments via text. SMS consent form
A Polite Reminder
We realise that it can be difficult to find the time to see your doctor. We also understand that you may have multiple problems that you would like to discuss with us. The same applies to the person sitting next to you in the waiting room. We endeavour to deal with all your problems in one slot, however sometimes we cannot safely do so in allocated time. Remember, we have a responsibility to ALL of our patients to try and be timely. Please try and keep to one problem per consultation, and please don’t be offended if the doctor asks you to come again to discuss your other problems.
